One of the most under the radar prospects in the class of 2017 that is set to have a breakout season is Logan Matulis (Class of 2017). The 6’6′ swingman is ready to step in and lead a Mountain Pointe squad that graduated six seniors. First, however, he looks to continue the great summer he is having, after recently joining John Ortega’s Powerhouse Black 17u team.
Citing the opportunity for more exposure during the July live period, Matulis made the move from Grassroots to Powerhouse. With Saben Lee receiving major attention throughout the spring playing with Powerhouse, Matulis noticed the importance of being in a situation where your abilities can be showcased, and have acknowledged that Powerhouse is a good situation to accomplish that goal.
Logan hopes to secure scholarship offers from division 1 colleges because, as he said, “I see myself as that caliber of player and I want to compete with and against the best”. With exceptional leaping ability and a deadly long range stroke, this should be the month that Logan gets on the radar.
As for the upcoming season, Matulis sets the goal for his team to be “top 5 in the state and go as far in the playoffs as we can” and also has the personal goal of “first team all-state”. When asked what the difference will be from last year, where he played reserve minutes, to reaching these goals that he has set, he offered this response: “I knew that I would have a lot more responsibility next season as the leader of the team, so I have been working out harder than ever before and I really wanted to focus on improving my weaknesses. My team will need me to do so much more this year, so I don’t want to let them down”.
Acknowledging that he needs to continue to improve his ball handling, playmaking ability, and consistency on defense, he is humble enough to know that it is a constant grind to improve. Logan Matulis has the size, the athleticism, and the exciting, efficient style of play that scouts and coaches are sure to love. It is now time for him to put forth the production on the big stage in order to reach his goals.
