In fact, in May, he posted a double-double and had his first in game dunk while participating with Arizona Powerhouse Red. His stock has steadily improved to the point where he should be considered a legitimate fit for many colleges.
Maddock has not received any interest from colleges at this time. A lot of that is due to the fact that he is relatively new to playing basketball. He has “only been playing basketball for about three years.” At times, this causes him to feel as though he is “trying to learn the game and catch up to some of the people who have been playing a lot longer than me.”
He is a little raw due to recently picking up the game. With that said, he seems to have a good work ethic and a lot of upside due to his motivation and uncoachables. He frequently makes the trip to Phoenix so that he can play against the best possible competition in the state.
Although being 6’6″ is not something that can be taught or worked on, it is definitely a positive for coaches who are looking for a versatile big. Moreover, I have been very impressed with him in regards to his ability to play on the block. For anyone, regardless of being new to the game, he has a good feel for the defenders body and above average footwork as well as hands.
As far as his goals for this off-season, he stated, “I am trying to be more aggressive, both offensively and defensively.” He also wants to spend a lot of time in the weight room as a means of adding some muscle to his long frame. He is only going to be a Sophomore; thus there is definitely time for him to put on some weight and continue to work on his craft.
Maddock is a very intriguing prospect because he has a good ability to get up and down the court, he has been working on his ability to stretch the court, and he is still learning the game. The more and more he plays, the better feel he will get for the game. He possesses a lot of things that are hard to teach and a good work ethic. There are a lot of variables with a newer player to the game, but if he continues to put in the time to work on his game, he should be able to find a spot after his high school career.
