This clutch shooter plays for the 16-8 ECI Prospects who at the 16U level playing in SPTS competition as well as a couple standout St. Cloud events has faced a strong level of competition to prepare him for the upcoming seasons.
“This is my first year of AAU and I’ve had a great experience,” Joe said. “Just getting to know some guys from all over the state is cool and it’s fun to play with a lot of different people with many different skill types. I think the best part is playing with guys from all over the state.”
ECI has players from Bismarck, Fargo, West Fargo, Dakota Prairie, and Solen and together they have helped Joe stand out in areas this spring and summer, as well as show him where he needs to improve.
“I think I could improve a lot more on defense,” said Joe. “That’s one of the weaker parts of my game that I could get a lot better at.”
The 6-foot-1 Pistorius averaged 14.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and two steals a game as a sophomore. The Packers were 23-4 and took second place in Class A.
“Being in the state championship game was the highest point of my sophomore season,” Joe said. “I think beating Century was the best part of the season because everyone counted us out (Century was considered the favorite and West Fargo beat them in overtime at state).
“Things are looking okay for next season there’s some things we need to work on. We need to work on our man defense to really be a big contender for the state title next season.”
Joe and fellow varsity rotation 2018 Abdi Sufi return this winter as does point guard Simon Haboniman and senior size Cooper Chwialkowski and Matt Thompson. Joe’s focus is this group coming together next winter but he does want to play basketball well into the future.
“I haven’t thought about college that much yet. If I had the chance to play college basketball in the future I would take it!”
And at this point we believe college basketball will take him.
