SG Jordan Poole (Playground Elite 17U)
The La Lumiere (IN) and Michigan Wolverines commit is one of my favorite players to watch on the circuit. He plays with a ton of flare and style. That was evident by his choice of shoes with custom made Michigan Nikes. Poole is a flashy passer that can throw bullet passes for dimes on a rope through traffic. Smooth ball handler especially in the open floor. Good looking perimeter jump shot with deep range on it out to well beyond three. Shot selection could be better at times, but being such a dominant player he knows he can take over games. Slick getting to the basket where he wins off the bounce in one on one situations.
PG Octavius Parker (Playground Elite 17U)
The Kenwood 2017 lead guard had his best event we saw all spring or summer. Parker is a point guard that’s strength is his shooting. He is a streaky shooter at times where he can miss several in a row, but once he gets locked in he can get on fire. He was very good again in their semifinal win over the Las Vegas Prospects connecting on four threes for a total of 14 points.
SG Troy Brown (Las Vegas Prospects 17U)
Brown is a big wing that has great length and athleticism. He kept taking the ball to the rim with straight line drives where he would cross his man and get to the cup. Speed in the open floor with the ball in his hands. Can hit a three on occasion, but that isn’t really his go to weapon. Top 20 player nationally.
PF Joey Hauser (Iowa Barnstormers 16U)
This 6’8” Wisconsin product continues to see his stock rise on the national scene. Hauser is a supremely skilled four man that can face up and knock down threes at a very high rate. Nifty footwork and a soft touch around the hoop make him a low post threat as a scorer. Passes well out of the post finding open shooters. Crafty post defender. While not an elite athlete he knows how to position his body and make it hard on his opponent. Top 25 type kid nationally in 2018.
PG Brandon Simberg (Kessel Heat 16U)
The Libertyville point guard plays off the ball mostly for Kessel Heat 16U. What he lacks in height he makes up for with heart. In a game against an uber talented Dreamvision squad Simberg was the best player for his team. He shot the ball well from deep spotting up and drilling multiple threes going for 11 points.
PF J’Raan Brooks (Dreamvision 16U)
Brooks and company were just too much for Kessel Heat. At 6’8” Brooks who is a native of Garfield High School in Washington proved to be a dominant rebounder with his play at the NY2LA Summer Jam. He is a long and lanky post with broad shoulders and a great frame. The west coast star high pointed rebounds and snatched them out of the air in bunches. Offensively has some potential as a face up man from mid-range with his jump shot. Also can score with his back to the basket on the block. No doubt high-major prospect that will be a priority west coast recruit.
SG Max Watson (Dreamvision 16U)
Watson put on a show against Kessel Heat! The shooting guard with solid size is a plus plus shooter from the perimeter. He stroked it from three with consistency. Strong upper body allows him to score in the lane through contact. Got in the paint throughout the contest. Watson went for 21 points.
PG Courtney Ramey (Jets-Ramey United 16U)
Another day, another great performance from Ramey. The Webster Groves (MO) 2018 standout showed off his slick passing in the half court. He has a great feel for the game working well in the pick and roll where he can blow by the help defense or swing it to his teammate for a bucket. Shot the ball solid and really hit the glass high pointing some 50/50 balls. Elite national talent and is on the track to McDonald’s All-American Game status if he plays like he did the past five days over the next two years.
SF Torrence Watson (Jets-Ramey United 16U)
Watson is a physical wing that just brings it game in and game out. The thing you have to love about his game is how he is always in attack mode. The Whitfield (MO) product must have got to the line 8 to 10 times a game throughout the event. Powerful inside when attacking off the bounce using his strength and body control to finish at the cup. Clean shooting stroke where he is great from mid-range and solid off the catch from three. Great rebounding wing. Has the chance to be a go to scorer at the high major level.
F Gaven Pinkley (Jets-Ramey United 16U)
Pinkley was quietly consistent throughout the event. He is a skilled 6’8” combo forward from Hillsboro (MO). The 2018 prospect is very mobile and light on his feet. Shoots a high percentage on the interior with a soft touch finishing at the cup where he seals off his man, converts in high/low game, and gets on the offensive glass. Once he adds more strength he could be a quality low-major prospect.
C Jude Akabueze (MBA Hoops 16U)
The 6’9” center from Mississippi is a man child! He is a physically built post that snatches rebounds on a consistent basis. He boxes out and puts his huge body on opponent to grab boards. Clears the rebound by throwing elbows. Most of his points come on dump off passes or offensive rebounds which he finishes with monster dunks.
