Neither team disappointed as they exhibited high level play and competiveness throughout the contest. Team CP3 ended up with a hard fought 88-72 victory. Below are some notes from yesterday’s championship game.
.Wendell Carter Jr. dominated down low
Carter Jr. controlled the paint from the tip off to the final buzzer as he used a mix of power and finesse to impact both sides of the ball. Constantly roaming the middle he showed the ability to score with his back to the basket as well as step out to cash in on pick and pop opportunities. He spent most of the game cleaning up the glass, seemingly grabbing every missed shot. He finished the game with 14 points.
.Guard play was elite
Some of the most highly recruited guards in the country took the court looking to take home a championship. For Mokan Elite Elijah Landrum and Bryan Trimble stepped up big time as they shouldered most of the scoring load and played with intensity to keep the game competitive. Landrum led his team with 20 points. However the lethal back court of Collin Sexton, Lavar Batts Jr. and Blake Harris was too much to overcome. Taking turns attacking the rim and pushing the ball in transition, the trio combined for 50 points.
. Defense was king
Both teams came out the gate firing and found early offensive success as they traded baskets for much of the game. With ten minutes remaining Team CP3 made a strong defensive push and was able begin wearing down the Mokan Elite attack. Led by lock down defender Lavar Batts Jr. Team CP3 increased the on ball pressure and forced contested shots. The adjustment turned out to be the key difference as they slowly pulled away for a comfortable victory.
