He had an absolutely stellar playing career at local St. Mary’s High School and then a strong season at the University of Arizona where he lead the team in scoring and to an NCAA tournament bid. He is currently playing in the NBA on a new contract with the Philadelphia 76ers while owning a club basketball team in Phoenix, Arizona – Team Bayless.
The coaches of Team Bayless and the rest of the organization, which is also known as Arizona United, are familiar names as well. Christian Polk was a very talented player at Deer Valley High School and continued his career at Arizona State University and UTEP prior to playing in the NBA D-League. In addition, Jerren Shipp should be well known by many around the valley as he played in the second most games of any ASU player. Lastly, club director and coach Ben Stryczek has coached around the state in an array of capacities.
As far as players are concerned, this team is primarily filled with Arizona players. This is in huge contrast to last year where the team was mainly filled with players from different states. This group is quite talented and has a number of the top players in the state on the roster. They have experienced some growing pains early on, but have had a lot more success as of recent. The team has participated in many of the top tier tournaments around the state due to their talent and Adidas sponsorship – look for this group to experience even more success in July.
Roster:
#21 Bailey Sterling 6’3″ SF/PF 2017 Freedom High School (Oakley, CA) – Sterling is a strong, athletic player who does a good job of attacking the rim with either hand. He is a decent shooter with a decent handle.
#4 Bryson Mewhinney 5’11” PG 2018 Sunnyslope High School – Mewhinney is a very crafty player with a good handle. He does a nice job with a live dribble and with his footwork. He uses double moves to freeze defenders and create separation.
#23 David Exline 6’4″ SG/SF 2018 Mesquite High School – Exline is a physical player who does a good job on the glass. His ability to use jab steps and put his shoulder down to attack the rim is above average for a high school player.
#24 Davion Washington 6’4″ PF/C 2018 Agua Fria High School – Washington is the most recent addition to the team. He has an above average motor and good athleticism.
#3 Deven Breckner 5’9″ PG 2018 Deer Valley High School – Breckner is a strong shooter with a great handle. He has a great fill for the game and is an above average defender.
#15 Jaden Lee 6’3″ PG/SG 2018 Mesquite High School – Lee is an explosive athlete who has been improving his ability to shoot the basketball from deep. He is a good on ball defender and is very capable of putting his shoulder down and attacking the rim.
#1 Lunden Taylor 6’1″ PG 2018 San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno, CA) – I really like Taylor’s physical style as a floor general. He attacks the rim well and placed strong on-ball defense. He is also capable of shooting the basketball from deep.
#11 Xavier Dussell 6’3″ SG 2020 Mesquite High School – Good length, athleticism, and ability to shoot the basketball from deep. At times he settles for shots, but overall, he does a remarkable job of competing in an older classification as he has many skills.
