Below is a breakdown of some tidbits on the team as well as a brief player breakdown.
Team highlights:
- Made final 4 of the Platinum Bracket in Pangos event in Las Vegas in April.
- 5th Place in Pangos Sweet 16 in April
- 7th Place in Pangos Sweet 16 in July
- 12-8 overall record.
Competing in Pangos Cream of the Crop July 15th/16th and new Adidas tourney in Vegas July 20th-24th
AZ Firestorm have dealt with injuries all club season to different key players. They have only finished two tourneys with all 8 players playing which is tough but they look to finish strong this month of July.
Individuals:
Stevie Newendyke – Gilbert – 2017 – 6’2”
SG: Leads team in scoring – Knock down shooter from deep, shooting over 50% from 3. All around playmaker, scores in post too. Extremely high basketball IQ, son of a coach, has natural feel for game. Guards bigs in the post very well considering his lack of size against some bigs. He has begun growing into his body which is making him move better on the floor.
Kyle Klaus – Desert Ridge – 2017 – 6’0”
PG: Leads the team in assists. Shooting 43% from 3 – True Point Guard – very good shooter from deep– tough, high basketball IQ – can score when called upon in that role. Improving on ball defender. High academic kid, coaches son who naturally has a great feel for the game.
CJ Waters – Gilbert – 2017 – 6’5”
Wing: Leads team in rebounding, has dealt with a number of injuries so far this spring/summer -Long athletic wing, good defender and rebounder, improving scoring ability. High motor. Very High academic kid, will be one wing to watch that is under the radar.
Caden Town – Gilbert – 2017 – 6’2”
Wing: – Lockdown defender – improving 3pt shooter – good pull up – high basketball IQ. High academic kid. All around glue guy. Always guards other teams best wing/guard. Look for him to develop this July and be a key contributor at Gilbert.
Kade Parks – Queen Creek – 2017 – 6’4”
Wing: – Super Athletic – Capable of big scoring games. Has had a few impressive dunks off lobs, drives and put backs this club season. Streaky 3pt shooter, improving there but has a chance to develop nicely into a nice prospect with good length.
