Continue ReadingAZ Power North 17U Platinum had a strong showing at Double Pump “Best of the Summer” tournament in Anaheim CA. They finished with a 5-2 record and their run ended with a loss on Sunday in the Final 4 of the Gold Division. Their big men led the way with 6’9” Jake Hess (Horizon) & 6’7” Kai Fletcher (Chaparral) scoring, blocking shots, defending and rebounding at a high rate that created a distinct advantage inside. New addition Darion Spottsville (Shadow Mountain) brought a high level of experience and led the way defensively as well as scoring in bunches going to the hole. JT Thoman (Chaparral) was physically the strongest player on the floor and shot well from three as well as scored at will driving to the basket. Trey Checkett (Chaparral) shot at a high percentage from long range and play exceptional defensive throughout the weekend. Terriq Tshaka ( Paradise Valley) is a savy PG that brings the ball up the court with ease against very tough competition and made numerous shots attacking the rim and set up his teammates for wide open looks along with playing solid defense!
Overall this was the best performance Jake Hess has had and his stock should soar incredibly this July. Standing a 6’9, 3-sport athlete, he is a superior athlete & showed that he is deserving of major love from schools, it will be interesting to see how things go moving into the high school season as he leads the Huskies of Horizon.
This whole team is very underrated but has prospects all across the board and hopefully after this July they will get their right due of respect from schools and these young men can get a chance to continue their education at some level of college through basketball.
This team hopes to build on its success this weekend at the Fab48 in Las Vegas!
