Dominique Hardimon 6’2″ SEMO Bulls (Poplar Bluff): A beast of a young combo forward who continued to play with a high motor at both ends. Hardimon did a nice job attacking the offensive boards with passion and got plenty of buckets. His coaches put the ball in his hands quite and bit and he dominated opposing bigs off the dribble. He also played the top of his team’s full-court pressure defense. High motor. High results.
Roman Wilson 6’9″ KC Pacers 16U (Park Hill): Very skilled big who continued to impress with his ability to play inside and on the perimeter. Has really developed into a knock-down 3-point shooter. If you close out, he’s going by you and getting to the basket off the dribble. He is also a force in the paint with his size and length. You can see his development over the course of the grassroots season.
Jason Montgomery 6’2″ Arsenal Hoops (Marquette): A talented combo forward who can excel at multiple positions. He is physically strong enough to handle himself in the post and has a variety of offensive moves. He is excellent on the drive where he can get buckets. He is also very good in transition. I just like the fundamental make-up of his game.
Nicholas Zeil 6’6″ KC Pacers Blue (Park Hill): A solid young big who is very good on the high post because he has the ability to pass the ball and make the 15 footer. A smart player who does not try to do too much with the basketball. His size and length also make him a factor on the boards.
Trey Griffey 6’5″ Gateway (Lafayette): He was very productive on the offensive end in the two games I watched. He is a very good shooter from the 15-17 feet. In another game, he was getting busy in the low post. What I liked most about him was that he went and boxed out somebody every time a shot was taken. No other player in the tournament that I watched did that.
Luther Taylor 6’3″ Gateway (Whitfield): Athletic power forward who is at his best when he’s attacking the boards. A lefty who has good length and a lot of bounce. Operates on the baseline quite well and will dunk on people in traffic.
Avery Taggert 6’3″ TEM Select (Eureka): I watched him in a spring tournament and was impressed with his overall skill level. It’s July and I’m still impressed. He has a big body, but he is a good perimeter player who can pass, catch and shoot the 3-pointer. He can also make plays off the dribble. Very solid fundamentals.
Moses Opkala 6’7″ St. Louis Warriors 17U (Ladue): A big, strong post player who held his own physically in the low post while playing at the 17U level over the weekend. Had a real defensive presence in the paint with his shot blocking and defensive rebounding. Still a work in progress on offense, but looks the part of a future standout with his 250-pound frame.
Dalen Ridgnal 6’4″ KC Spurs Black (Rockhurst): A very active and athletic forward who plays with a high motor. I was impressed with his ability to rebound out of his own area. Converted many offensive rebounds for buckets. Also displayed a nice shooting touch from the elbow.
Jack Buford 6’3″ Arsenal Hoops (Kirkwood): A big, strong post player who goes about 260 pounds. He was tough to handle when he caught the ball in the low post. Displayed some nice footwork going both left and right and had a nice touch. He likes to float on the perimeter and shoot 3-pointers. I like the post play better.
Will Strubberg 6’5″ TEM Select (Union): A long and lanky forward who has improved over the course of the summer. He’s playing with more strength and confidence. He is more comfortable on the perimeter with his ability to handle the ball and shoot 3-pointers.
