We profile four guys including some guards that have solidified themselves among the more coveted players in the class.
De’Ante Booker (Evansville Harrison / Pocket City 2017) – To be fair, we probably had Booker a little low the last time around but part of that was due to the fact that we wanted to see him breakout and take control of games. He has begun to show that and it started at our 2017 Spring Showcase. He was very good that day and drew the attention of quite a few college coaches. He showed that again at times during July. He’s got the ability to be a solid DII level prospect with his size, handles, and strength. He also brings a little versatility. Could continue to rise if he has a good high school season.
Christian Stewart (Indianapolis Roncalli / Indiana Faith 2017) – Not many have taken off like Christian. He had himself a pretty solid high school season with Roncalli and used that as a springboard to get to the point where he is now. At 6’0, Stewart can handle the point, run against pressure, and shoot the lights out of the ball. His three-point prowess really shined this Spring and it was on full display at the Top 100. He already picked up an NAIA offer from Marian and for good reason. Expect him to be a kid that most of the Crossroads League takes a hard look at.
Connor Rotterman (Hamilton Southeastern / IE Green 2017) – Much like Stewart, not many have taken off this big. Rotterman is a little held back during the high school season by the depth of talent they have at HSE. However, this Spring he really showed his ability to grow and expand his game, mainly on the offensive side of the ball. Connor really worked on being more aggressive and he was able to turn that into some high scoring totals. He should be an easy fit for most schools because of his work ethic and skill set.
Isiah James (Indianapolis Pike / Grassroots Indiana 2017 White) – Many times you see players that get to a point in their development and just come to a halt. They either need to see something physical change in their body or they need to change their style of play. For James, he really took the change to heart. He has expanded his game much more on the wing but has kept his aggressive, frantic play in the post as well. James has also become much more of a ball handler and willing to get out and play in transition. Jumper is the next part he needs to improve but his stock has already taken off with his play this summer. Give him another year and we will see.
