Towson Team Camp Takeaways
TOWSON, MD — A number of teams from the DMV region and beyond traveled to attend Towson University Team Camp, and Vantage Hoops was in the gym to catch the action. Below, we run down 5 takeaways from a full day of hoops. Stay tuned for additional coverage from the event.
Calvert Hall goes 3-0
Sparked by late heroics by 2018 Josh Cornish to help his team defeat Poly in their first game, Calvert Hall carried positive momentum throughout the day by recording additional victories vs. Neumann-Goretti and Bishop McNamara. 2018 Brendan Adams a Towson recruiting target who also holds a Kansas State offer, assumed primary ball-handling duties and demonstrated the ability to be effective on and off the ball. This young group has some nice pieces, and they got better each time they hit the court.
Jason Gibson is a Rising Star
Sidwell Friends is one of the hottest teams in the DMV this summer. They’ve recorded two recent wins vs. DeMatha, and continue to prove their recent success is no fluke. A big reason for their recent success is the emergence of 2019 Jason Gibson. A big time shot maker, Gibson is a cold-blooded long range threat who absolutely must be accounted for on the perimeter. His ability to space the floor, play hard, and make smart decisions with the ball in his hands has been super refreshing.
Terry Nolan Jr., the Jack-Of-All Trades
Mt. Carmel’s Terry Nolan Jr. can impact the game in so many ways. The 6-foot-3 guard is a high level athlete with a wiry strong frame and a high basketball IQ. He was deliberate, and generally made great decisions with the ball in his hands. He’s a confident shot maker offensively, but the open court is where he can be deadly. Nolan has that extra gear, and the ability to consistently seek and finish through contact.
Towson Recruits Impress
Towson assembled an elite team, comprised of a handful of talented prospects from the DMV region. Jahlil Jenkins, Charles Snowden, Quinton Drayton, Travis Ingram, Donald Carey, Langston Gaither, KJ Davis, and Jalen Gabbidon were among the standouts from this group. Gabbidon is a relatively new name in the DMV area. He transferred to Glenelg Country School from Harrisburg Academy in Pennsylvania, where he was the top scorer in the state. He was a standout this spring with York Ballers, and put together a strong all-around performance for the elite team.
DC Premier Bigs Showcase Significant Ceilings
2 of the most promising big men from the event had to be 2018 Jermaine Harris of Clinton Christian and 2019 Makhi Mitchell of Bishop McNamara. Harris, a native of Georgia, has taken the DMV by storm in recent months with his ability to command the paint on both ends of the court. Harris is being touted by a number of high major programs, and for good reason. He’s a workhorse who seems to get better each time we see him. Another emerging name in the DMV area, Makhi also has plenty to offer at the division 1 level. The 6-foot-9 rising sophomore is a great rebounder who consistently finishes through contact, and demonstrates a high work rate. Look for these two bigs to see an uptick in their recruitment with DC Premier during the July live period.
