CG Brendan Adams | Calvert Hall
A talented and versatile offensive threat, Brendan Adams assumed primary ball-handling duties for Calvert Hall at Towson. The 6-foot-3 guard is a prolific jump shooter from the catch and especially off the dribble. He was super efficient from the mid range areas. Adams is a shifty, quick twitch handler who can hesitate and work ball screens to get into the paint and create. He’s still improving as a defender, which will be important at the next level, but has demonstrated an advanced offensive repertoire.
SG Demetrius Mims | Poly
One of the first things that almost immediately becomes evident about Demetrius Mims is his length. The 6-foot-5 guard is an effective scorer from all three levels. Owning a quick and confident release, he’s a capable jump shooter both from the catch and off the dribble. A graceful athlete who excels in the open court, Mims plays above the rim and finishes consistently in traffic. He’s a quick leaper with a high motor who crashes the boards, boxes out, and attacks closeouts repeatedly and effectively. He does a good job with the fundamentals, especially defensively, where he always has his hands out and constantly moves his feet to stay in front.
PF Jermaine Harris | Clinton Christian
Since his recent arrival from Georgia, Jermaine Harris has taken the DMV by storm. The 6-foot-9 four man is a super versatile offensive threat who is equally effective both in post up and face up situations. His jump hook is consistent, especially over his left shoulder, and he has a strong rip and go move which he uses to attack the basket. Owning a consistent motor, Harris is a two-way force on the glass. He has strong hands, and does a good job securing the ball at it’s highest point in traffic. A solid passer out of the post, Harris is very deliberate, and does a good job establishing early position. One of the most desirable qualities Harris possesses is his competitiveness. He’s the type of big you would want on your team, and absolutely hate to have to match up against.
SG Josh Cornish | 2018 | Calvert Hall
At 6-foot-3, Josh Cornish is a well-rounded guard with a good amount of confidence. He hit a contested, game-winning 3 for his team in their first contest vs. Poly. Cornish did a great job using head fakes to set up defenders, and has the ability to pull up on a dime and hit consistently from mid range. He ran the floor, filled the lanes correctly, and made good decisions with the ball. His high motor translated to the defensive end, where he was alert and active in the passing lanes.
PG Jason Gibson | 2019 | Sidwell Friends
One of the best pure shooters we’ve seen all spring and summer, there are a lot of admirable elements to Jason Gibson’s game. A high IQ guard who spaces the floor, Gibson is very deliberate, and absolutely must be accounted for on the perimeter. He has the ability to get hot and wreck a team’s game plan. Gibson has the ability to handle the ball, work ball screens, and create for others. He’s a good passer with either hand. While he’ll still need to add strength, his overall feel for the game is commendable, and his big time shot making ability is very appealing.
PF Makhi Mitchell | 2019 | Bishop McNamara
A promising young big man coming out of the DMV, Makhi Mitchell is a fantastic young post prospect. Owning a strong, developing frame, Mitchell has strong hands and is a very solid rebounder in traffic. He is deceptively nimble, and quickly gets off the floor. A natural rim protector, Mitchell contests shots effectively and does a good job staying vertical on his challenges. Offensively, he demonstrates a soft touch and the ability to consistently draw and finish through contact. He’s an underrated decision maker offensively, who is versatile enough to face up and attack or post up and dominate.
PG Johnathan McGriff | 2019 | Bishop McNamara
Johnathan McGriff once again displayed a superb skill level on Saturday. A crafty, quick handler who has an extra gear and impressive vision, McGriff enjoys getting into the paint and mixing it up offensively. He uses a floater to shoot over top of bigs, and can drop dimes with either hand to open teammates. His jumper still needs work, but he’s shown confidence and improvement in his three point shot from the catch. As his skill set and decision making continues to evolve, McGriff has the chance to emerge as one of the best 2019 point guard prospects in the DMV region.
CG Judah Jordan | 2019 | Capitol Christian (Team Durant)
There is plenty to like about up-and-coming guard prospect Judah Jordan. The long-limbed, skilled guard is a confident handler with an efficient middle game. He’s crafty around the rim, where he can finish with either hand. Defensively, he gives great effort and rebounds well out of his position. As he continues to gain confidence and add strength, the versatile 6-foot-3 rising sophomore will likely be tracked among the top guards in his class.
