Continue ReadingSt John’s College point guard Tre Wood has been a hot commodity lately in the DMV, and the 2018 prospect has picked up five Division I offers this offseason.
His first offer from Manhattan came in April, the other four from Towson, James Madison, Rice and Old Dominion all came last week.
Plenty of additional Division I interest is starting to roll-in too.
“The schools that are interested are obviously those schools that have offered, and then; Temple, George Mason, Louisiana Tech, St Joe’s, and that’s pretty much it for right now,” said Wood, who is more focused on improvement than recruitment.
“It’s not really my main focus right now, because it’s not time for me to make a decision yet. Recruitment is good, but at the same time I’m really focused on improving my game, so I can open it up a little bit more. I’m not paying too much attention to the offers, I’m just trying to stay humble.”
A savvy guard, who takes pride in being a true floor general, Wood says it’s his hoops IQ that separates himself from his peers.
“I feel that my defense and my aggressiveness on offense opens up a lot for me, and my IQ is at a higher level,” said Wood, who mentioned what he’ll be looking to improve before his junior season starts.
“Definitely my jump shot, and then just changing speeds.”
He’ll work on his game and gain additional exposure this summer while playing with one of the Northeast’s best squads, Team Takeover 16U.
“They pretty much just want me to control the tempo and just lead on the floor – whether it be physically or just vocal. They want me to shoot more, but at the same time I have that point guard mentality, and want to get my shooters the ball first,” said Wood, who mentioned his personal goals for the summer.
“I hope to win the Peach Jam for 16U. And hopefully I can get some more schools calling, and then I’ll be really focusing and improving my jump-shot too.”
