Likes to face up and can take his man out on the perimeter where he can hit a mid-range jumper or put it on the deck a couple times. Effective in the pick and pop game flaring out to the three point line to hit them on occasion. Quick around the hoop and toughness to compete on boards against bigger guys. Not a real back to the basket scorer at this stage. Low-major prospect in 2017.
Big turnaround for Downers Grove South this year which was led by their core group of juniors including Clifford.
“A lot better than last year. We turned it around going worst to first. We ended up losing to Barret (Benson) in the regional championship, but other than that it was a great season. I think I improved a lot this year. I got my outside game going a lot more. I have to continue to work on the balance between inside and out.”
What are his strengths as a prospect?
“I can guard bigger than I am. I can attack people off the dribble. I can knock down mid-range shots.”
Several schools have inquired about the four man.
“Yale, Cornell, Brown, Western Michigan, Furman, Wofford.”
Furman has extended an offer.
“I like the location and the school. It is a really school. One of my real good friends Matt Rafferty plays there.”
Clifford runs with the Illinois Wolves on the UAA circuit.
