The 6’0″ combo guard put on quite a shooting display in his team’s victory over Cape Notre Dame to open the two-day team camp. Wuebker opened the game with six consecutive 3-pointers. Some were off the catch and others were off the dribble. A few were well beyond the 3-point line. He finished the game making eight of his 12 3-point attempts.
“I was in a good rhythm, so I kept shooting,” Wuebker said. “That is one of my strengths. I can shoot the ball. I can shoot off the dribble and I can work off the pass. I need to be more solid around the rim. I want to improve my finishing with contact.”
As a junior at Advance, Wuebker made a team-high 60 3-pointers. However, shooting is just a small part of his overall game. Wuebker stuffed the stat sheet quite well in leading Advance to a 24-6 record and a Class 1 district championship last season. Wuebker averaged 14.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals while playing both backcourt positions with equal effectiveness.
“I’m comfortable playing the 1 or the 2, whatever works,” Wuebker said. “When I get the ball, I just do it.”
Wuebker has been spending his summer playing with the SEMO Bulls 17U team. When he returns for his senior season, his goal is to try to lead Advance to a Class 1 state championship. He and his Advance teammates got a taste of the Final Four in 2015 when the Hornets finished third in the state tournament. Several key players from that Final Four team are still around which makes the Hornets’ chances pretty good for a state run in 2017.
“My goal is to hopefully gets some looks from colleges and help our team win a state championship,” he said. “I know it won’t be easy, but we have the talent to do it. We just have to work hard.”
