Showcasing high level athleticism to go along with a prolific touch from long range, most will agree he has demonstrated a significant ceiling. If you ask him, Haskett will tell you that his biggest impact comes on the defensive side of the ball where he is regarded as a high level perimeter defender.
“I’ve been playing basketball since I can remember,” Mario recalled. “My defense is underrated. That’s the best part of my game.”
The root of his defensive impact stems from his relentless tenacity. Haskett is an exceptional athlete who owns a strong frame. He has quick reactions, and great instincts. He’s very confident, and loves to compete at the highest level.
“I’m aggressive,” he began. “I go at whoever is in front of me. I don’t let anybody stop me.”
In the past 12 months, Haskett has been transitioning from more of a scoring guard to a point guard. Given his ability to defend either position, the transition is somewhat of a natural progression. He’s embracing it, while also focusing on the mental aspects of being a lead guard.
“I’m working on being a leader, continuing to run the team.” Haskett explained. “You know, run the show. Being smart. Making good decisions. Staying under control.”
Given his high academics, as illustrated by his impressive 3.8 gpa, Haskett is a top a target of Ivy League powerhouses Harvard and Yale. Virginia Tech, Creighton, Minnesota, Providence, and Murray State have all offered him scholarships within the last six months.
