Oppold did some of everything leading his team to several wins and has us believing that he will lead both the Chargers and the BBA Force to several more victories in the months to come.
“So far Spring AAU has been going very well,” Oppold said to PHD. “It has been a good experience for me to travel and play against a high level of competition everywhere we go so I am being pushed to work hard and see that I need to get better at everything in my game.
“It has also been a really good experience for me to work with the coaches at BBA. Our 16s Coach Brian Stoebner is one of the smartest basketball guys I have been around and it has been good for me to work with him on the mental side of the game. He has taught me a lot about how to get easy buckets for myself and my teammates by moving without the ball and never staying in one spot.”
Koln definitely looks like an educated player from all that have helped him in improving his game. Koln plans to keep working on his craft in the upcoming events.
“In the coming months I would really like to work on my ability to defend all five positions so I want to work on my all around athleticism by getting stronger, quicker and faster. I would also really like to work on getting to the hoop and finishing through contact.”
Let’s not forget that Oppold had a varsity role on a Sioux Falls Christian team that had depth at every position. The team won the Class A State title and 23 of 26 games along the way.
“Beating O’Gorman, Washington, and Western Christian were all big moments for us this season,” said Oppold. “Beating Dell Rapids to move on to state was a huge moment for us because of the history of the teams from the season and past seasons and then we carried the momentum to state and won a state title which was the biggest moment.”
Big things are expected to continue for the Chargers too. Dejay Fykstra returns is the known name, Josh Fligge will be the man in the middle, Oppold will join them to make a great frontline that will have depth as well, and Lincoln Unruh will help lead a back-court that has some big shoes to fill.
“We all have to work hard in the off-season and get better and come back next year and all play our roles and work hard together just like we did this year,” Oppold stated.
