Continue ReadingIsaiah Walden will be a key senior piece for a very good Rochester John Marshall program this winter. They lost a heart-breaker in the Section 1AAAA title game to Lakeville North by one point (North has won that section five years in a row), but the Rockets will be just as loaded with phenom Matt Hurt a year older along with high-level senior contributors like Dedoch Chan and Walden.
“I think we should be able to make it back to the section championship and make a state run,” Walden said. He averaged 11.5 PPG for JM as a junior. “Hopefully we can develop some of our younger guys so they are ready for the big stage.”
Walden has been playing guard for the D1 MN Prospects team this spring and summer, garnering interest as he plays with a group of high-level athletes.
“Summer basketball has been great so far,” Walden said. “I love playing on the prospect team, and we have a great group of guys that are really fun to play with. So far I’ve heard from Army-West Point, University of Mary, Northern State, St. John’s, and Bemidji State. I’m planing on taking visits to Northern State, St. John’s, and University of Mary in July or August.”
As a kid with a specific business interest, Walden will be doing his research on each school’s offerings in that department.
“Academics are definitely very important,” Walden added. “I’m thinking about majoring in business. I’m taking a bunch of accounting and business classes next year because that is what I’m planning on doing in college.
“It will come down to the visits and how I like the coaching staff, campus, and if it’s the right fit.”
