The 2018 prospect is doing everything he can this summer — despite not playing with a grassroots program — to generate some attention from college coaches.
“I haven’t really had any contact, and I’m just trying to get myself out there as much as I can because I’d love to play college ball,” said Sommers.
“I don’t really go to a great basketball school, so I think that may have something to do with me being under the radar.”
He added: “I’d like to get some looks from some colleges. I’m just going to stay patient, go to a couple camps and showcases, and hopefully I’ll have some college coaches interested after that.”
Sommers defines his playing style as a defensive-minded wing, with the ability to knock-down deep looks.
“I like to drive to the basket and I play pretty good defense and I get a lot of blocks; I’d say that’s the strong point of my game,” said Sommers. “And I can shoot the ball pretty good as well.”
He tore some ligaments in his ankle at the end of his sophomore season, but is back to 100 percent now, and eager to get back on the floor.
“I’m trying to get my vertical up some, I work on that everyday, with backboard touches and stuff like that,” said Sommers. “I want to get better at driving with my right hand, because I’m mainly left-handed, and I just want to work on my ball-handling in general.”
