Continue ReadingCharles Snowden, a rising senior at St. Albans School, has put together a strong spring with District Basketball Club 17U. At 6-foot-7, he’s a long and athletic wing who can impact the game in a number of ways. His versatility on both ends of the court gives his team a massive boost. Snowden is blossoming in his role with his AAU team.
Snowden’s ability to defend 1-5, and then turn around and play multiple positions offensively is very appealing. Along with his size, length, and athleticism, that two-way versatility will be coveted as his recruitment begins to expand.
“I think I’ve been playing pretty well when I go out and play aggressive. My role on the (AAU) team is not be a major contributor scoring-wise so I just go out every game and try to bring energy, defense, rebounding,” he explained. “Those are a lot of my big roles, so I try to do them game in game out and score when I need to.”
Charles’ maturity has been well noted this spring. He’s put an emphasis on the mental aspects of the game, and he believes consistency in that area will help him get to where he wants to be as a player. Aggressiveness, and taking chances have been two of his main areas of focus. As he continues his transition out to the wing, he’s also focused on expanding his skill-set.
“I know during the winter I’m going to be a major ball handler w/my high school team,” he began. “So ball handling is definitely going to be my biggest need.”
Snowden is a hard-working student who sports a solid 3.16 GPA at St. Albans, one of the most challenging schools in the country. St. Francis has offered him a scholarship. Towson and Dartmouth are two schools who have been in consistent contact with him recently.
“I’m planning upcoming visits to Towson & Dartmouth during June,” he stated. “Maybe Columbia in New York as well.”
Holy Cross, Penn, and James Madison have also been involved with Snowden’s recruitment. He took a recent visit to Harrisonburg to see the campus at JMU. He projects to fit in nicely as a small forward at the division 1 level. Charles has made it clear that once he finds the right fit, he will likely make his decision on which school he wants to attend.
“I’m not too concerned with racking up a bunch of offers and then deciding from there,” he said. “If I find a school that me and my family really like, and it’s my second scholarship offer then we’re ready to commit.”
The chemistry that his AAU club has demonstrated so far this spring has been commendable. The players genuinely care about each other, and that’s one of Snowden’s favorite qualities of the team.
“We go out and have fun game in game out. We’re all really good friends off the court and so we really try to bring that on the court as well,” Charles said. “When we’re playing our basketball, sharing the ball, smiling, having a great time, that’s my favorite part.”
