Continue ReadingCarson Newsome is a long and rangy 6’5” shooting guard from Waukegan that has definitely made strides in his game over the last year. He has cut down on the turnovers and increased the range on his jump shot from 15 feet out to beyond the three point arc. Handles are solid and has potential as a passer. Defensively guarding on the perimeter is probably the best part of his game. Length and lateral quickness gives opponents fits. Low-major prospect.
Where has he seen growth in his development?
“I have been getting used to the faster pace. Ball handling has improved. Defensive and offensive rebounding has gotten better. Improved cutting down on my turnover rate this spring.”
Newsome plays with the Illinois Wolves on the 17U level.
“UA circuit is good. Some games I score a lot others I don’t. It is whatever coach wants me to do.”
St. Louis University recently extended Newsome an offer.
“It was pretty cool. To have Travis Ford call me on the phone who I have seen on TV. I have been to a camp there. The gym and campus are nice.”
