The D1 Minnesota 16s are ranked second in the nation going into the June break from Grassroots hoops and the experience for Davis has been a good one.
“It went great because me and my teammates grew a connection with each other and learned how to be unselfish with the ball and not make friends with the other teams,” Davis said.
“The things that has helped me improve as a player is being a leader and helping my teammates improve as well. This summer I want to become a better shooter and improve on being more of a point guard then just one position.”
Davis is starting to hear from some college programs now as well.
“The University of Wisconsin and DePaul are interested in me right now and the Minnesota Gophers are looking at me,” said Davis. “That’s all right now at this point.”
Davis of course played a reserve role for a deep backcourt at Hopkins that won the Class AAAA state title last winter. Anthony averaged 8.6 points per game behind five double figure scorers so getting that total on an exact average of 5.1 shots per contest was eye opening. So was Anthony’s 68 percent shooting from the field for his sophomore season.
“I think things will be great next season because we got young players that have heart and don’t give up and a lot of shooters and a lot of athletic players,” Davis said. “We got players that can run the floor with us and keep up so that will feel great for next season.”
With Ishmael El-Amin, Simon Wright, and Davis back from the state tournament rotation plus Joe Hedstrom, Blaise Beauchamp, Jon Martens, and Daryl Mayfield back from the regular season rotation the Royals are in good shape to defend their state title.
