For a young player taking on older players from around the Midwest there can be some tough times but facing this competition will only make Mason and his teammates better for the winter year. Overall Larson has enjoyed the experience.
“So far it’s been good,” Larson said. “Playing up a year in the 17u division is really helping me grow and become a better player. I really have enjoyed traveling and seeing a different variety of players.”
The Schoolers have played in Dallas, the Twin Cities twice, and Omaha so far with trips to Milwaukee and Las Vegas upcoming (in addition to playing at the Pentagon for an event in July). Mason has a plan for how this will help him grow.
“Mostly just my strength and all around toughness,” is what Larson wants to improve. “I feel like if I can become more of a physical player but still play the wing that would help me on both ends of the floor.”
Based on what PHD saw Mason do in the Twin Cities and Dallas events we agree. Despite a long and strong frame for his age Mason is also quite skilled. Larson was a key part of the 18-4 Langford team this past winter and he really enjoyed his tenth grade year.
“One of my top memories of the year personally was playing a very good game at the DWU Classic in Mitchell, it was probably the top moment for me. Very great atmosphere and all around a good game.
“As for next year things are looking great. Our team should come back much more mature and ready to roll. We really need to work on being able to score night in and night out.”
Larson has been solid for the Schoolers and had a big role on a top team as a sophomore at Langford. Chances are good that Larson will play college basketball although at what level he can play is still being determined but he definitely wants to play at the next level.
“I’d like to play college basketball if the opportunity presents itself,” Mason said. “I haven’t thought too much into the education part but I’m just going to try and keep my mind open to new things and find something that suits me well.”
