The shooting guard crop is headlined by Tim Finke (Champaign Central). Finke is a 6’5” wing that has a complete offensive arsenal at his disposal. He is a plus plus perimeter shooter especially pulling up off the catch. Above average athlete that can attack the cup and finish above the rim. He is the clear top dog when it comes to the position. After Finke at the two guard spot there are a lot of potential go to scorers in Kezo Brown (Simeon), Drew Peterson (Libertyville), Armon Brummett (Decatur MacArthur), Justin Boyd (Whitney Young), and Lacey Watson (Rock Island). Each do it in different ways, but they can all put it in the bucket. Some upside wings that are extremely projectable, but haven’t put it all the way together yet include Darius Beane (Carbondale), Javon Freeman (DePaul Prep), and Cardell McGee (Springfield Lanphier). All three have potential defensively as well. Names that are emerging at the position include Ryan Kutsor (Lake Zurich), Quinlan Bennett (Proviso East), Damaria Franklin (Niles North), Vinny Belcaster (Morton), and Kenny Pittman (Simeon).
When looking at the small forward group it is led by Talen Horton-Tucker (Simeon). The 6’4” wing has transformed his game over the last year and showed his versatility on both ends of the floor. Can score with a three off the catch or driving to the hoop. Plus rebounder and improving defender. After him it is mixed bag of upside guys in Devonire Glass (Simeon), Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville), Bakari Simmons (Simeon), Donita Johnson (Romeoville), and Naseer Turner (Kenwood) along with more established productive players in Justin Hardy (St. Charles East), Jake Kosakowski (Whitney Young), and Joffari Brown (St. Joe’s).
