Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
What more can you say about the state’s top point guard that we haven’t already said this spring? The 6’3” Morgan Park standout has been outstanding running the show for the Mac Irvin Fire 16U. His vision and speed in the open floor allow him to get others involved. He is lethal as a scorer with DEEP range on his three point shot that he can get off with ease from anywhere. Slick ball handler that slices and dices defenses for buckets. High major prospect.
Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young)
The Whitney Young guard is slippery driving to the hoop off the bounce getting penetration with ease and handles it well in the open floor. Best in the transition game where he uses his vision to find others and gets to the hoop where he finishes with acrobatic layups. One of state’s top 2018 lead guards. Has had problems with injuries during his young career. If he can consistently be on the court he is a problem for opponents!
Brandon Hurt (Marian Catholic)
Hurt has quality size and strength for the lead guard position. He plays strong with the basketball and handles it well in tight spaces. Very powerful getting in the lane where he can make plays for himself and others. As a scorer in the paint Hurt can knock down runners and layups. Dishes well to his shooters and bigs for quick dump off dunks. Solid pull up jump shooter especially from mid-range. Really improved his feel for the game from lead guard spot. Needs to be on the D1 radar in 2018.
Amir Brummett (Decatur MacArthur)
He stands at 6’3” and is more of a scoring combo guard. Brummett is a powerful ball handler that can get in the lane where he looks to score and kick. When scoring he finishes with athleticism around the hoop. Also has ability as a passer. Potential as a perimeter shooter with range on his jumper out to three.
Marquan Williams (Perspectives)
Williams is a 5’11” point guard that has a strong and compact body. He is quick and shifty with the rock in his hands. Williams is at his best in the open floor where he pushes the pace getting the ball up the floor fast and making plays for his teammates to score. As a scorer himself Williams excels with a pull up mid-range jumper and using his strength to attack off the bounce. Had a solid, but not spectacular spring.
Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook)
Thornton has a silky smooth game with the rock in his hands. He gets to the rim with ease using his acceleration and change of pace. Speed in the open floor is a major factor in his success as a transition player. Confident taking it to the rim! Slick passer with the ball in his hands. Can be a little wild and over dribble at times in the half court, but a lot to like with this young floor general.
Camron Donatlan (West Aurora)
Donatlan is a slick ball handler from West Aurora that continues to elevate his stock. The lefty lead guard has a feel for the game and plays with good pace. Great handles and is quick with the ball. Can hit an occasional jumper. Elevated stock this spring playing with Meanstreets 16U.
Chase Adams (Marian Catholic)
Adams gives his opposition fits with his constant defensive pressure. The tiny guard is so pesky and just keeps putting pressure on the opponent time after time. That eventually pays off with steals which he turns into points on the other end. Speed in the open floor and changes gears quickly. Solid vision and likes to score with a mid-range jumper.
Kendell Moore (Danville)
Moore is a thinly built lead guard that has struggled with injuries and getting on the floor over the last year. He is still very projectable with his speed in the open floor, court vision, and ability to get to the basket off the bounce.
Ahmad Muhammad (St. Joseph’s)
He is running with Kessel Heat 16U this spring where he is one of the primary ball handlers. He is quick and twitchy with the rock in his hands being able to get in the lane where he likes to use a 15 foot jumper and runner to convert.
