This position group starts with the two high major combo guards in Da’Monte Williams (Peoria Manual) and Nojel Eastern (Evanston). Both have great size for the position, but are different in their games. Williams relies on his athleticism and scoring ability to change the game. Eastern is more of a positionless prospect that has a great feel for the game with a high skill level.
The most talked about prospect in this group is Alonzo Verge. Verge is an electric point guard that is high risk/high reward with his And-1 mixtape type game. He has bounced around multiple high schools including a stint at Florida prep power Arlington Country Day. The core group of mid-major point guards is my favorite part with guys like Jacob Keller (Fenwick), Teyvion Kirk (Joliet West), Evan Gilyard (Simeon), PJ Pipes (Lemont), Tai Bibbs (West Chicago), and Jimmy Sotos (Conant). Each have different styles, but they are all without question D1 prospects.
The D2 prospects are solid as well with Jalen Clanton (Riverside Brookfield), CJ Coldon (Belleville Althoff), and Kenondre Schumacher being the headliners. Some of my favorite small school lead guards include Devin Whitelow (Washington), Joey Coffaro (Hersey), Grant Wolfe (Effingham), Justin Shadowens (Marion), Rico Sylvester (Belleville East), and Jack Nolan (Benet) to name a few.
