Players To Watch:
Jalen Gibson-Starks – Senior Guard – Their top defender without a question – absolute bulldog on defense. Plays with a motor that is second to none. They will look to him to become a leader on their team. Transitioning to play the point guard position this summer.
Tevian Jones – Junior Wing – Tev is starting to get noticed more and more. Before his breakout year on varsity last year, was a relatively unknown player. Has the ability to do it all from an offensive standpoint. Can handle it, shoot it, and attack the basket with authority. Continuing to work on the defensive side, but he will be looked to as one of their better players.
AJ Howard – Junior Guard – AJ is a player that started the season on varsity last year, but suffered an injury early on in the year. When he returned from his injury he wasn’t seeing a lot of time at the varsity level, so he split time with JV and varsity. Kid can score the basketball. He is also working to get better on the defensive side, but they expect big things from him this year.
Summer Plans:
With the new hire of Ed Gibson as head coach, we are spending the majority of our summer working on our team in the gym by ourselves. CHS played early in the summer at the GCU team camp, and the only other event they will play in this summer is Beasley’s Prime Time next week. GCU team camp went ok for them, but the guys were just learning some of the new things that Coach Gibson is installing. The majority of their focus this summer will be on implementing a new style of basketball at CHS. The way the new staff looks at it, we need to work on themselves, and not worry about playing a bunch of games until we get the new system in place and our guys are comfortable with what they’re being asked to do. Coach Gibson is spending a lot of time in the gym with these young men, working on individual skill development and teaching them the effort that it’s going to take to play in his new system, especially on the defensive side of the floor. The guys are embracing the process, and are excited to play Coach Gibson’s style of basketball.
