Last year, Heat Northwest trotted out Lucas Walford, a prospect who was so long and so skilled that NHR was shocked to have never heard of him before. Walford went on to sign at Augustana after a successful AAU campaign.
Now, it’s Zach Hanson‘s turn to emerge for Wear Out The Net in his first season of AAU. The 6-foot-5, hard-nosed post has drawn interest from the D3 and D2 levels.
“The spring is going very well,” Hanson said. WOTN is ranked #11 in NHR’s 17U rankings with an 11-5 record. “We’ve had a lot of great wins, including an upset against D1 Prospects our first weekend in St. Cloud. It’s my first year playing AAU basketball and I’m very pleased in my decision to play for WOTN. Great group of guys and even better players.
“As far as the recruiting process so far, I’ve been in contact with a few coaches, mainly from schools in the MIAC. I also have been in touch briefly with coach Montgomery from Bemidji State. I’m looking to go on a visit to BSU sometime in the near future. I also have visited Gustavus and will be looking to visit Saint John’s this summer as those two schools, Gustavus and Saint John’s are at the top of my list right now.”
Hanson went on to detail what his most important factors in a school are.
“I’m a student-athlete, so I take the student part just as seriously as the athlete part,” he told NHR. I am looking to find a school that can offer a successful basketball program as well as being distinguished academically. I need a school that can provide the best opportunities for me on and off the court. When just looking at it from a basketball perspective, I am looking for a program that is in need of a big forward that is ready to take on a role and make an impact in the program as soon as possible, because I feel like I will be able to do so, although I know I still have a lot to learn and work on to improve my game.”
