Continue ReadingLincoln Way West 6’2” shooting guard Marco Pettinato is coming off a monster junior season where he led his team to the state championship game. He is a tough and gritty shooting guard that has a stocky body. Crafty with the ball in his hands. Also shoots it well from three off the catch. Needs to be on the low-major radar.
Pettinato spoke about his junior year as a team helping them reach the state title game.
“Obviously once we started getting it rolling in the playoffs it kind of just took over with emotion from there. It was all a rush at once. Now that AAU is going on and people tell you they heard about your story and talk to you about how cool it was to follow you. It really starts to hit you that you did something that a lot of people didn’t expect. It is a special thing that doesn’t happen a lot. It has started to hit me. I think I had a pretty good year averaging 20 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Going down state and having a lot of accolades. Player of the year in the Herald. Would like to have a couple games back where I let other team’s schemes get the best of me. In general I thought I had a good year.”
What are the strengths of his game?
“Controlling the tempo of the game and seeing who has a mismatch. Doing whatever it takes to get us a win whether it is me scoring. Taking a smaller guy inside. Taking a big guy on the outside. If someone else has a killer mismatch getting them the ball.”
He updated us on his recruitment.
“A lot of Ivy League and academic schools. I got a 31 on my ACT and 4.3 GPA. Those are the schools contacting me. Those are the schools I am interested in with my style of play. I am not all that up and down and am more of a scheme guy. I have talked to Princeton. Coach Weinstein has heard from Navy, Colgate, Harvard, Cornell, Lehigh, and Lafayette.”
Pettinato runs with Young Legends on the UAA circuit.
