Continue ReadingLuke Loehr led the Rosemount Irish in scoring this year at 16 points per game with a high of 29 against Eagan. He hit the 20 plus point mark seven times this year and was in double figures in all but two games.
Now Luke is a skilled and forceful forward for the Minnesota Warriors who have lost only three games through three tournaments.
“I’m enjoying it a lot,” Luke said of playing with the Minnesota Wariors. “I love my teammates and couldn’t ask for a better program to be a part of than the Minnesota Warriors. These first few weeks have been pretty exciting, especially winning the NY2LA tournament!”
Luke and his team are 11-3 and Loehr has been a mainstay on the glass scoring at the rim and facing up four men at the arc and closer to get results. There is much more to his game then that though, and more to come.
“For upcoming tournaments I want to get my confidence back on my jump shot and get back to 40 percent or so from the three point line like I was shooting this winter.
“Also I would like to improve on my ball handling and pull-up jump shots because then I will be more versatile as I head into my senior year and then into college.
“What I have improved on the most throughout the winter and what I’m trying to improve on through this month would be my strength. I added on about five pounds since the winter season ended and am continuing to get stronger.”
Loehr was offered by Navy after they watched him in April which really excited the Rosemount talent.
“It felt pretty surreal. I’ve been putting in work ever since 4th grade and it’s nice to see some of that hard work finally pay off. Hopefully it’s the first of many.”
There are other programs consistently checking on Luke as well as his brother Alec.
“Navy a lot, the Cornell assistant coach called today and invited Alec and I to their elite camp in June and invited us to take an unofficial visit, and Yale also invited Alec and I to their elite camp (but that was earlier in the year and not this month), and Army had a meeting with us at our school after the NY2LA tournament and invited us to their elite camp.
“As far as D2s, I took visits to Winona State and Augustana this winter and they’ve been in contact a lot this month and SMSU came to one of our practices earlier this month as well.”
Loehr plans to hit the weight room as well as the courts in his off time to continue the improvement in his versatile game.
“My goals for the rest of the summer are to add on another 5-10 pounds, continue working on my pull up jump shots and ball handling, win two more tournaments with Warriors Nation and maybe pick up some more offers along the way!”
