C Cameron Krutwig (Young Legends 17U)
Outstanding day for the big fella who will be the top ranked center in the next class of 2017 rankings in June. The 6’9” big bodied center went head to head with a player of similar size and bulk in Anthony Cameron who is among the top handful of five men in the class. Krutwig is a physical presence down low that knows how to use his strength to create space by banging down low with other centers. The Jacobs big man showed several spin moves as well as a soft touch on short jump shots. Great footwork for a player of his size. Plus passer that sees over the double team finding shooters and cutters. He was solid rebounding. Mid-major plus prospect with high major post potential.
PG Jacob Keller (Young Legends 17U)
Keller might not have led Young Legends in scoring all weekend, but he very well might have been their most important player. The lefty combo guard is making the full transition to playing on the ball and has shown he is more than capable of it. Keller is a slick ball handler that gets anywhere he wants on the floor using hesitation and a tight handle. He works well in the pick and roll. Really understands the offense and directs his teammates. Plays with a swagger and confidence that transfers over to his teammates. Distributes well in the half court finding his shooters when getting penetration in the lane. Sound decision maker that reads the defense and makes quality dishes. Doesn’t shoot it a ton, but has improved his three point stroke. If he can get this down consistently he is going to be special. Defensively really competes with his length and lateral quickness. Tough guard that will fight through a screen and gets his hands on steals. Solid mid-major prospect.
PG Jimmy Sotos (Young Legends 17U)
The Conant guard has had a big spring and that continued this weekend in Minnesota. Sotos has a nice feel for the game in the half court being able to run his team and make reads finding shooters. Speaking of shooting Sotos is a lights out three point threat particularly off the catch. Consistent mechanics with elevation off the floor. Slick ball handler that has shown he can create off the dribble using screens as well just one on one to get in the lane for scores. This kid is tough as nails and really competes. Low majors need to jump all over him!
SG Dwayne Rose (Team Rose 17U)
Powerful shooting guard that plays a lot of time with the ball in his hands. The Crete Monee 2017 prospect is a volume scorer that can get to the rim with power attacking off the bounce and getting defenders on their heels. Gets to the free throw at a high rate. Loves to use his pull up jump shot where he shakes defenders then rises up to drill it. Streaky with it at times however. Defensively he gets in passing lanes turning them into points on the other end. Low to mid-major.
PG McKinley Wright (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Wright was consistent throughout the weekend. The high major lead guard didn’t score a ton, but got all his other weapons involved. He is great at getting in the lane as he wins off the bounce with ease. Quickness in tight spaces allows him to get through traffic. Finds shooters and cutters on a consistent basis. Pushes it in transition. Really improved his feel in the half court for running a team over the last year. When looking to score he is best using his speed in transition for layups or drilling pull up 15-18 foot jumpers. Outstanding defensive rebounder for his size and position.
PF Nathan Reuvers (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Reuvers had his best day of the weekend. Long and lanky post that is skilled around the hoop. Reuvers can stretch the defense with his perimeter shooting to out beyond the three point arc. Definitely hasn’t seen a shot he doesn’t like as it is going up with even the slightest room. Would like to see him move the ball from time to time for better looks. He flashes spin moves in the lane with quality footwork and a soft touch around the rim. Hit the offensive glass well for second chance points. Will need to add strength going forward especially in college. Runs the floor with ease. A lot of potential skill to work with. High major prospect.
PF Matthew Hurt (D1 Minnesota 17U)
Hurt impressed once again! At 6’9” Hurt has tremendous size and length. For his size moves tremendously well. The skilled post is great in transition running the floor right down the middle. He is ready for the feed and dunks it home strong. Plus passer. Despite being a 2019 prospect playing two years up he competes on the glass and can block shots in bunches with his length and timing. High major no doubt and one of the top 2019 bigs in the Midwest.
