16U Thoughts
- Nobody had the type of weekend to unseat ECI who has gone deep into two strong Midwestern tournaments has done well. Had somebody won the 16U Spring Jam then maybe we would have had something to talk about but that didn’t happen
- After Pentagon National beat Dakota Phenom Wiest convincingly it moved our top group teams into a three squad category of ECI, Pentagon, and Schoolers. The Pentagon squad and the Schoolers both went 3-1. The Pentagon team lost to the third Minnesota Comets team (their top team was in Dallas and second team in Colorado) while the Schoolers lost to the OSA Crusaders second team (their top team was also in Dallas). Comets and OSA were the teams playing for the weekend championship.
- Who should be two Pentagon or Schoolers? Close call right now. The Pentagon lost their game by 7 while the Schoolers lost their game by 15. Both teams defeated Phenom Weist although the Pentagon team had a bigger margin so those two small factors mean the Pentagon gets to and Schoolers three at this point.
- As as the 4 and 5 spots go, Phenom Weist and BBA are close but Phenom had the slightly closer game with the Schoolers so they get the edge.
- Out in Colorado the South Dakota Attack won their pool before losing to the Chauncey Billups Elite squad. A nice showing in Colorado gives them the edge on those below them.
- Nice start to the season from PBC Jewett taking three of four in the third 16U division, the Niners teams and the Heat also played their first event of the year.
- What’s next? The SPTS kicks off in two weekends meaning ECI, the Schoolers, and the Heat will have back to back weekends of league play. PBC National is in the Jayhawk Invitational this weekend and an AAU qualifier the following weekend followed by a two month break. The second weekend of May a couple of these programs will be at the Battle at the Lakes in Minneapolis along with some of the best teams in the Midwest (including nationally ranked teams from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan).
