SF Justin Smith (Mac Irvin Fire 17U)
It was Justin Smith’s weekend! The 6’6” small forward came on strong at the end of his junior season. He has continued that into the travel team circuit. Smith displayed his ability to score at all three levels. He had several smooth drives through traffic, hit the pull up mid-range jumper, and looked comfortable shooting it from three. Smith plays above the rim and had a couple more highlight reel dunks Sunday. The biggest difference is he is being more assertive more consistently. If he does that in the EYBL in two weeks he will be a recruit that picks up even more high major offers.
F Jameel Alausa (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
Alausa is a 6’7” combo forward. He is naturally an inside player that is trying to make the transition to playing on the perimeter more. The 2017 recruit showed his versatility with his ability to use his athleticism and length to his advantage. He is a big time athlete that excels in the transition game as a finisher. Also finished well around the hoop using his quickness on the interior. Flashes skill attacking from the mid and high post area. Quality rebounder with even more upside on that end. High academic kid that needs to be on the D1 radar.
SG John Contant (Illinois Stars 17U)
Contant put his name on the map with his play at NY2LA. The 6’3” 2017 shooting guard took over one of the games we saw. He plays with a tremendous motor and determination. The Stagg High School wing can hit the outside shot, but was most effective scoring off the bounce. He was great slicing through traffic and efficient finishing inside. One to track during the live period.
PG PJ Pipes (Illinois Stars 17U)
Pipes continues to impress. The scoring combo guard is a solid shooter both pulling up and off the catch. He can hit them from either mid-range or three. Strong and explosive with the rock in his hands he finishes well around the hoop. Tough guard that has the look of a low-major prospect in the 2017 class for sure. Possibly mid-major. Should be a name college coaches make sure they check out.
SG Armon Brummett (Team Manimal 16U)
Armon is a 6’4” shooting guard with strength and athleticism. He is a pure scorer! He plays with swagger and confidence. The 2018 wing has deep range on his jump shot, pulling up from Steph Curry territory. Very powerful when he has the ball in his hands and is going downhill. Slick handles in traffic. D1 prospect in the 2018 class.
PG Amir Brummett (Team Manimal 16U)
Amir is slightly different from his brother and teammate at Decatur MacArthur. He stands at 6’3” and is more of a scoring combo guard. Brummett is a powerful ball handler that can get in the lane where he looks to score and kick. When scoring he finishes with athleticism around the hoop. Also has ability as a passer. Potential as a perimeter shooter with range on his jumper out to three. Could be a D1 prospect.
