PG Ayo Dosunmu (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
The state’s top 2018 point guard showed the national evaluators in attendance he is a potential top 50 recruit nationally with his play at Swish N Dish. The 6’2” point guard has tremendous speed with the ball in his hands. He flies by any defender that tries to check him. He has smooth acceleration attacking the basket blowing by his man. When he gets to the rim he finishes with athletic layups shooting a high percentage on them. Solid three point shooter that can knock them in both off the catch and pulling up. High IQ guard that makes quality decisions with the basketball. Defensively he causes turnovers with his full court defense and pressure on the opposing point guard. High major prospect.
SG Kezo Brown (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
Kezo showed flashes of the player we remembered from his freshman season after a shaky sophomore campaign. He is a slashing two guard that takes it hard to the rack where he finishes on the interior. Can change directions on a dime. Gets out in transition. One thing I would like to see out of him is going more north and south in the open floor instead of east and west getting down the court. No doubt one of the more talented prospects in the class. Need to see it consistently now.
SF Talen Horton-Tucker (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
The most productive sophomore across the state this past year in Chicago might have been Horton-Tucker. THT is a big bodied 6’5” small forward that can really shoot the ball from beyond the arc. He is outstanding off the catch. Powerful using his body when attacking off the bounce and draws contact. He just has a knack for being in the right spot and making the correct play. Improved as a defender with his instincts. Will even block and occasional shot. Top 10 prospect in the next update.
PF Tamell Pearson (Mac Irvin Fire 16U)
Pearson was a name that emerged on the radar at Swish N Dish. The 6’8” long and mobile four man didn’t see much time at Morgan Park, but he made an impact for the Fire on opening weekend. Pearson has a raw offensive game, but his combination of size, length, and athleticism makes him intriguing. Got on the offensive glass and was a presence defensively blocking shots. With the lack of bigs in 2018 expect this to be a kid that emerges.
SG Lacey Watson (Quad City Elite 16U)
At 6’3” Watson is the man for his Quad City Elite 16U squad. The Rock Island guard has go to scorer ability. The athletic guard likes to get to the hoop in the half court by beating his man off the bounce. He gets to the free throw line at a high rate because of it. Potential on his jump shot is definitely there from mid-range and stretches it out to three on occasion. Shot selection is an area he will need to continue to improve. Defensively gets in passing lanes every now and then for steals.
PG Bailey Dee (Illinois Irish 16U)
Dee is a powerfully built 6’0” lead guard from the Champaign Central High School. He can score in bunches. Particularly likes to use his pull up jump shot from both mid-range and three to get buckets. Has the ability to get in the lane on drives. Quick decisions with the ball as a passer. One to continue to track.
SG DeAndre Heckard (Hoops4Health 16U)
The 6’1” wide shouldered Romeoville standout has a long and projectable body at the guard position. He is a combo guard that can slide over and play some point when needed. Strong with the ball attacking and is very smooth with it in transition. Drive and kick ability as a distributor. Streaky shooter from the perimeter. Can block perimeter shots with his length and quickness.
SG Ryan Saunders (Hoops4Health 16U)
Saunders is a long and lanky wing that is extremely active on the interior with his quick second jump getting on the glass for put backs at an extremely high rate. Quickness on the interior and finishes through contact. When handling it on the perimeter showed he could get to the hoop off the bounce against quality defenders.
PG Ahmad Muhammad (Kessel Heat 16U)
Muhammad is coming off a solid high school season where he took it up another notch in the second half of the season. He is running with Kessel Heat 16U this spring where he is one of the primary ball handlers. He is quick and twitchy with the rock in his hands being able to get in the lane where he likes to use a 15 foot jumper and runner to convert.
