PG Alonzo Verge (Meanstreets 17U)
Verge is back in Chicago and is playing with Meanstreets on the circuit. The thin and rangy guard is what he is. High risky high reward. Verge is a tremendous ball handler that can put his defender in spin cycle and shake them out of their shoes with his shiftiness and tremendous handles. Problem is when he does this it is always in a one on one setting and the ball stops. Lethal crossover and flashy vision which leads to some tremendous finds, but also turnovers. Streaky perimeter shooter that will need some work mechanically. Did hit a few threes off the catch though. Potential high major prospect based on upside.
PG Nojel Eastern (Meanstreets 17U)
Eastern doesn’t really have a true position at 6’6”, but is just an old school basketball player. He looks fully healthy after a serious injury that sidelined him for most of the circuit last spring/summer and slowed him down in the first half of the high school season. He is a slick ball handler that likes to iso his man up and look for his shot or find a teammate. Showing more burst off the bounce and playing with confidence. Jumper wasn’t very consistent as most of his points came off the dribble or in transition. Quality passer at his size. Rebounds well for position as well. High major prospect.
PG Evan Gilyard (Meanstreets 17U)
Gilyard was ok, but not great at Swish N Dish. It is kind of a process for him to see where he fits in with Eastern and Verge who also both need the ball in their hands to be successful. The lefty guard is quick getting in the lane and had a couple nice finishes including an and-1. Mid-major target to watch this spring.
PF Manny Patterson (Meanstreets 17U)
Patterson is a physical 6’7” power forward that was solid on the glass throughout the event using his strong mitts to snatch rebounds out of the air. Was up and down as a scorer on the interior. Had a couple strong moves where he went through post defenders for buckets. Also turned it over a few times down low. Mid-major prospect and one of the best power forwards in the state.
SF Doug Wallen (Illinois Irish 17U)
“Ballin Wallen” was on display at Swish N Dish! The 6’5” small forward from St. Thomas More has a tremendous motor. He is relentless attacking going right down the lane where he finishes with acrobatic finishes and crazy layups that seem to always go in. Has a great feel and is always in the right spot to make a play. Quick around the hoop and can get on the glass. Sound mid-range jumper. Low-major prospect or high level D2 kid.
PG Devin Whitelow (Illinois Irish 17U)
Whitelow is the heart and soul of the Irish. He is a pesky defender at 5’9” that was matched up with the much bigger Da’Monte Williams at times and gave him some problems using his quickness and pressure. Pass first point guard with vision. Can hit an occasional jumper. Not a huge scorer for the Irish. High level D3/NAIA prospect.
PG Aundrae Williams (Illinois Irish 17U)
The Springfield Lanphier 6’0” point guard has a nice combination of size, strength, and athleticism. Smooth with the ball where he can get in the lane to hit a runner. Streaky shooter, but can knock down a three every now and then. More of a scoring point guard. D2 prospect at this stage with low-major upside.
PF Will Boles (Illinois Irish 17U)
Liked this 6’6” undersized post when we saw him during the high school season. He is a space eater that knows how to use his body carving out room on the interior to score. Soft touch around the hoop and is an solid rebounder. Going to be a nice small college prospect.
PF Brandon McCombs (Illinois Irish 17U)
The Jacksonville 6’7” broad shouldered four man has a physical upper body. Tough rebounder that fights tooth and nail on the interior. Excels offensively shooting it from mid-range especially on the baseline from 15 feet out. Small college prospect with D2 upside.
