I took a brief jaunt over to Spring Lake Park to check out the action at the Suns Jam Fest. I got to watch Suns Fields, West Central United and a little bit of the MN Flames.
Caleb Davis, Heat – One of five CDH kids on the roster, I liked Davis and his potential. He's springy and dynamic within the perimeter. I wanted to write more about the Cretin kids who were in this one, but there aren't any rosters with #s. Regardless, there's a good crop of athletic wings that will be future varsity Raiders. That includes Jordan Burns, Carter Sellner, Stephon Johnson and Zachary McDonnell.
Will Schmidt, Heat – A Totino-Grace kid who hit back-to-back 3s to keep Heat's chances alive. He's got a solid build and nice rotation on his deep ball.
Zach Fincher, West Central – A 6-foot-5 post out of Stephen-Argyle, it's no wonder that a kid with a build like this comes from a strong football program. You can bet he anchors down the O-line, but he's pretty good at hoops, too. He had a sequence where he was consistently rebounding on both ends and defending the rim to the point where he almost touched the ball for about six straight possessions. Depending on what his sport of choice is, I'd take a hard look as a D3.
Cody Peterick, West Central – I liked this guy as well, as I saw a 6-foot-4 finisher who had 12 points for WCU and scored in a variety of ways. He's from Ulen-Hitterdahl, which is a place that I have definitely never heard of, but I know where it is now (near Fargo).
Izaak Raspberry, MN Flames – Izaak will have to step up for Washburn's varsity next year as a sophomore-to-be, but I think he might be up for the challenge. He and Shontez Hester could be a decent young combo for the Millers. I liked Izaak's poise in this one, playing unafraid and with lots of control.
