Spring Jam: Quick Review
The Sanford Pentagon is once again hosting the Spring Jam and Prep Hoops runs through the results quickly before titles are crowned on Sunday afternoon.
17U Blue Division
As Expected: The four pools were won by Fury Kallman, SW MN Stars, ND Phenom, and BBA Force and those would be the four teams considered the best four 17U squads in the event.
A Bit of a Surprise: Did not expect Select Ellis to be 0-2 right now and definitely didn’t expect Nebraska Bison Red to give Fury Kallman the one point game they did. Definitely didn’t expect Comets K to get hammered by BBA Force the way they did.
What’s Next: Fury Kallman vs BBA Force, and ND Phenom vs SW MN Stars is beling played at the time of print with the title game coming at 10:10 am tomorrow morning.
17U Orange Division
As Expected: The final four of Showtime Hoopers/D-17s and Select Leafblad/ECI Select was as expected. ECI Select won their first two games handily.
A Bit of a Surprise: The ease at which D-17s (Fargo Davies HS) is going through bracket teams just goes to show how big chemistry is. They have as much talent as the squads in their division but are crushing teams because of their familiarity. They did have a hard time with PBC Knippling in the pool game though.
What’s Next: D-17s will play either ECI or Select Leafbald in the title game tomorrow morning.
16U Blue Division
As Expected: The only expected thing that happened was the Pentagon National team winning their pool. The rest of the pools were a bit of a surprise.
A Bit of a Surprise: The Pentagon National team crushed ND Phenom’s top 16s by 23 and it was actually the Nebraska Bison who gave the better game in pool play. That said the Phenom then beat the Bison by two scores. tMBA (MN) has had their way in the pool beating a BBA Force team that crushed ECI Sussenguth. The Comets second 16s (Comets Servaty) and Omaha Crusaders second squads each won their pools as well and those likely weren’t the predictions so good showings but them.
What’s Next: At the time of print OSA Crusaders had already advanced to the title game while Pentagon National team and Comets Servaty were still playing. An interesting game also being played now is BBA Force against the Dakota Schoolers in a consolation semi-final.
15U Blue Division
As Expected: Dakota Schoolers, PBC Long, and SW Minnesota Stars all took care of pool play handily. The Stars did have to fight off the OSA Crusaders but they moved on.
A Bit of a Surprise: ND Phenom Quist knocked off OSA in the quarterfinals and will get a shot at the Schoolers tomorrow morning.
What’s Next: 8AM semi-final games between the Stars and PBC Long as well as the Schoolers and Phenom.
