Recruiting Report: Will Thomas (2019)
Lake Clifton’s 6-foot-4 guard Will Thomas is already seeing plenty of acclaim as just a freshman, and has established himself as one of the state’s top young prospects.
He spent his freshman season with Lake Clifton’s JV squad, and it was a valuable learning tool as he prepares for the rest of his high school career.
“I started becoming more of a scorer because my team really needed that. And I had to be more energetic, and I had to be the hype-man and get my team pumped up and all of that. I need to continue to work on my defense and my ability to jump higher.” said Thomas.
Though he has seen some recruitment come his way thus far, he hasn’t seen any serious interest yet, but is hoping to ultimately generate as much interest as an older fellow Team Melo teammate.
“I don’t know for sure about who’s recruiting me, my mom has spoken with some schools, but we haven’t really been talking about it because I’ve been busy with AAU,” said Thomas.
“I’ve been talking to Andre Rafus, he plays with our 17U team, and he’s been talking to me about the recruitment. He didn’t get an offer until the end of his ninth-grade year, and I’m trying to be like that. I’m hoping it all starts up soon for me.”
Thomas has been able to develop into a versatile threat in the floor, one who is able to play in the post, but is most comfortable out on the perimeter,
“I was the tallest one on our team at Lake Clifton, so I had to play in the post. But I play guard for my AAU team,” said Thomas, who will again play with Team Melo 15U this summer.
“They need me to bring energy, if I have energy then my team builds off of that and it makes us a stronger team,” he said. “They just need me to lead, and I’m going to try and be a better defensive player.”
