The next is if he will look to follow where his older brother Grant Weatherford ends up going following his decision to leave the Purdue basketball program.
These are important decisions for the No. 31 prospect in the Prep Hoops Indiana top 100. The 6-foot-5 forward currently has an offer to play football for Miami (Ohio), and lately has been hearing from New Orleans, Indiana State, Elon, University of Indianapolis and Bellarmine when it comes to basketball. He is planning a visit to Bellarmine, which he is going to take with his brother and wherever his brother ends up picking could have an impact on what Sterling decides to do.
“Now that we’re both on the market, it’s an exciting time for both of us,” he said. “We had the opportunity once to play together and it was the best time of my life. I think that if we had another opportunity it would play a big role in what I end up doing.”
Weatherford is drawing interest for himself thanks to his ability to shoot from outside and the strength he could bring to the guard position. College coaches have told him they see him playing at the two or three spot.
He’s also committed to improving his game and finding more ways to contribute than just with his scoring ability.
“I’m really trying to work on intangibles, stuff like that,” Weatherford said. “Obviously, on our team everybody can score, college coaches know everybody can score so I’m trying to be the hustle player, player that gets rebounds, somebody that can do everything.”
This improvement could help make the decision between sports easier for Weatherford when the time comes, but he may already be leaning one way when it comes to that type of recruitment.
“I’m undecided there, but I love basketball,” Weatherford said about picking between the sports. “My whole family is a basketball family. I think that, well, probably basketball is the way to go.”
