The 6-foot-7 forward missed a lot of his junior year due to injury, but his grades didn’t suffer one bit. He maintained a 4.1 GPA, scored a 32 ACT and fell in the 99th percentile for the PSAT. Now healthy, he’s playing this spring for the highly-touted Fury Zurn 17U team.
“I am just really excited to be playing basketball again,” Sueker told NHR. “I missed my junior season due to foot injuries, which made it tough not being able to play. I am working on building up my speed, agility, and jumping back from my injury. I also am working to improve my ball handling, shooting, low post moves, and attacking the hoop. I feel like my defense has been pretty good, but I need to develop amore aggressive mindset.”
Sueker and Marshall classmate Weston Baker-Magrath played for SW Stars last year before coming over to Fury. He’s happy with his new teammates and the growth potential they have down the road.
“I am super excited about the team this year, and I love the guys I am playing with,” he said. “I feel like we are playing better together and developing more chemistry every day. We have been playing well so far, but I think we have tons of potential to become even better.”
He’s understandably already a popular recruit. Check out this list of schools that have reached out:
“Recruiting wise, I have a full scholarship offer to Southwest Minnesota State University, and I am hearing from Northern State, Sioux Falls, Augustana, Saint Cloud State, Winona State, Minnesota State University of Moorhead, University of South Dakota, North Dakota State University, Navy, Yale, Dordt, Briar Cliff, Viterbo, Ithaca, and Saint John’s University. I am really looking for a good academic fit as well as a good fit for basketball. I want to keep options open for the division that I play at, because academics are really important to me.”
That’s a long list of schools, and it will only grow over the summer. Notice Yale in there… I can’t help but suspect that high-academic east coast D1s will jump in on this prospect.
