“The first couple weeks have been exciting,” Matt said of his team with the Attack. “Our team this year has already started to gel together better than ever. Coach Taylor has focused on the defense end for our group and it has paid off tremendously leading into easy buckets on the other end.
“We are playing aggressive and with a little chip on our shoulder wanting to end this thing the right way! Also we are having fun every step of the way. There is never a dull moment with this team we call family.”
The Attack has a mix of six guys from South Dakota and three from Iowa plus we are told that Isaac Kortemeyer and Mason Archambault may also play with them in upcoming tournaments.
It’s been a nice April for Matt who helped O’Gorman to a 19-6 season. The Knights did get upset in the first round of state so Matt has some goals he is working on so that type of loss doesn’t happen in the future.
“I would like to improve on finishing around the rim and with that becomes playing more aggressively downhill towards that basketball and not just being a shooter,” Cartwright told PHD.
“The main part I feel I have improved on would be shooting off of the dribble and creating my own shot. Rising up and shooting over defenders rather than just being a spot up shooter.”
Cartwright was offered scholarships to Augustana and Sioux Falls back in the fall and they are two of the three programs that have stayed in contact with him through the spring.
“I’ve heard from Augustana, Sioux Falls, and North Dakota State,” Cartwright said.
Cartwright loves playing the game and is really enjoying his time with the Attack this spring.
“Just to live in the moment,” said Cartwright. “We are going to make many more memories in our last summer of AAU ball and play for each other. The more we play as the team, the more notice we get individually. Team success is individual success.”
