That player was Lamontay Daughtery. We recently had a chance to evaluate the incoming freshman. Physically he is definitely impressive. At 6’5” the 2020 prospect has long arms and a lanky frame. He totally has the prospect look. Gets up and down the floor with ease and is oozing with potential. Can do a little bit on both the interior and perimeter, but has not really defined himself yet as a three or four. The combo forward needs to tighten his handles up to become a threat attacking on the perimeter, but there is no doubt he has tons of upside. Defensively he had one huge swat that was outstanding coming out of nowhere. He has the potential to be among the top players in his class across the state.
Daughtery led his team to a state championship in 8th grade this past season.
“We had ups and downs. We pulled together at the end. We played together as a team the last game.”
He now will look to transition to the high school level where the hyped freshman will see significant minutes from the jump.
“I am looking forward to working hard and playing with players that I have never played with before.”
He broke down his game and what he likes to do on the floor.
“I can play in the post, but I can sometimes be on the wing where I can drive and shoot. Mostly I play in the post.”
