He totally looks the part with a chiseled frame and big time athleticism. Smooth running up and down the floor and high points rebounds. The raw tools are without a doubt there on both ends of the floor to be a big time talent as a slashing wing. We will watch him closely as the spring progresses with the Mac Irvin Fire 16U.
He broke down his big first year of high school basketball.
“I think I did a pretty good job leading my team to good quality wins. We had some ups and downs during the season, but we finished it out as hard as we could. I think I improved my ball handling showing people I am a wing. Lot of shooting and my percentage improved from outside and from the free throw line.”
When his game is rolling where does he excel?
“I think of myself as an attacker and a really explosive player who can hit the mid-range and open threes. I can put the ball on the floor on the wing. I play hard all the time on both ends of the floor.”
Lots of rumors circulating about Whitney possibly transferring high schools next year.
“Right now I don’t know. It is day by day. I am not sure when I will decide.”
Whitney is already receiving early college recruiting attention.
“I picked up an offer from New Mexico State. Interest from DePaul, Chicago State, Illinois, and Iowa State.”
Landing his first offer from New Mexico State was a dream for him.
“Hard work pays off. I really appreciated it because I worked so hard for it. I think I really earned it and really appreciated it.”
DePaul is another program that has been in contact with him.
“They said they are going to come out and see me play. They got film on me, but haven’t been out to see me in person.”
