The junior is a sharp shooter from beyond the arc that has a quick release and consistent mechanics. He gets great arc on it and the shot goes down on a regular basis. The other area he is great at is setting up his shot by moving away from the ball. Shadowens knows how to use screens moving on the baseline and flares to get open. Always ready to shoot. Plus pull up shooter from mid-range as well. His strength allows him to score inside every now and then through bigger defenders. He is an adequate passer that makes solid decisions in the half court. Isn’t afraid to stick his nose in for a rebound.
We spoke with Shadowens about his junior season.
“I think I have been doing alright. My teammates have been finding me and getting me open shots. Shots that I want. They are making it easier for me.”
Where has he seen improvements in his game?
“My mid-range and defensively I am trying to be quicker than I was last year.”
Shadowens had to take on an even bigger role this year with the graduation last year of SEMO freshman Robby Dosier.
“Coach told me I would have too. If that is what it takes to win games I will have too. I feel like I have done ok.”
Right now he doesn’t have much going on with recruiting. D2 programs looking for a combo guard that can shoot it should take a look. Would be a priority guy for D3/NAIA programs. Shadowens runs with the Illinois Bears on the travel team circuit.
