This spring the Dakota Schoolers have challenged themselves by playing in both the NY2LA and SPTS basketball leagues meaning nearly every game they play this year will be against some of the best teams in the Midwest.
“It’s fun, the competition is great, and it’s awesome to see all the teams that have been put together,” said Talley.
The Schoolers are 2-6 so far this year but all but one game they have played has gone down to the wire.
“As an individual I think I need to improve on my finishing ability and defense,” said Jack. “Throughout the winter my defense drastically improved and my court awareness got better as well. Offensively all of my abilities have progressed. (I) found the ability to finish above the rim.”
The Schoolers don’t quite have the athletic talent that other teams do in the NY2LA league but they do play better team basketball and when they get more used to one another things are going to get better.
One of the benefits of playing some of the best in the Midwest? College coaches see you play and not just the teams in the immediate area. PHD was on hand when Navy saw Jack over the weekend in Dallas.
“I’ve heard from Wayne State, Sioux Falls, Northern State, and I got a text from Navy.”
Jack cares mostly about the Schoolers improving their record and playing well in the SPTS. Plus he has some individual goals.
“I would like to end the summer with a positive record with the Schoolers and help develop some of the younger players at Washington at team camps. Individually I am trying to gain about 15 pounds and improve my ball handling.”
