He is relentless attacking going right down the lane where he finishes with acrobatic finishes and crazy layups that seem to always go in. Has a great feel and is always in the right spot to make a play. Quick around the hoop and can get on the glass. Sound mid-range jumper that continues to expand range wise each time we see him. Low-major prospect or high level D2 kid.
He spoke about his high school season as a junior.
“We lost in the regional finals, but I think we made huge strides from last year. We came together as a team and played team ball. In January we didn’t lose a game. We really came together. Everyone improved individually and we did as a team. I think I improved a lot. I got a lot stronger and my IQ for the game got a lot better. Going into the playoffs you know you have to outsmart them sometimes.”
What areas of his development has he seen improvements?
“My mid-range jump shot. I know coming to tournaments that guys playing my position might be a couple inches taller than me so I have to hit shots over them. I think handling the ball under pressure is something I have been working on. Also my rebounding has improved.”
Wallen is a main piece to an Illinois Irish Elite team that has played well together over the years.
“We play really well together. Some of us have played together for three years. We know each other’s tendencies. I think it is getting the best out of everyone. I know everyone on our team has potential. When we play together we are a really scary team.”
He has received mail from a pair of D1 schools.
“Letters from South Dakota State and Western Illinois.”
