The talented guard is seeing a bevy of low-major Division I interest right now, and could be on the verge of receiving his first offer soon.
“I’ve been hearing from Ball State, University of Buffalo, Cornell, University of Toledo, Akron, Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, and I think that’s about it right now,” said Murray.
“A lot of calls and texts, letters in the mail from all the schools. I’ve been on a couple visits to Western Michigan, and I’ve also visited (NAIA) Indiana Wesleyan.”
He says there are two schools in particular he feels may be close to extending an offer.
“I feel like University of Buffalo is showing the most interest, and probably Ball State after that. They’ve (Buffalo) been showing interest in me for a while, and talking to my coach about it, he called Buffalo’s coach and says they really like me a lot, and I might go to their exposure camp over the summer.”
Murray is a good-sized combo guard, who likes to get to the hoop. He classifies himself as a score-first guard.
“I consider myself a scoring guard, I’m good at getting to the basket off the dribble and I can finish above the rim,” said Murray.
“One thing that I think could use a little bit of work is my off-ball defense, like on the helpside and sliding down on defense.”
He’ll be spending his 17U spring and summer playing Michigan Basketball Academy, their first tournament is this weekend.
“I just felt like I could get more exposure and more training out of Michigan Basketball Academy. I’ll probably be focusing a lot in the weight room and trying to put on some pounds this summer,” said Murray.
“Really, I just want to earn a scholarship and get to a school that I would like to attend, hopefully D1.”
