Recruiting Report: Darryn Hylton (2019)
Bishop McNamara’s future could lie in the hands of 5-foot-8 point guard Darryn Hylton.
The 2019 prospect starred with the JV last season and was called up to dress with the varsity late in the winter. And he’s hoping to use his forthcoming 15U summer to now only improve his game, but to generate some attention from college coaches.
“I haven’t seen anything yet for recruitment, or heard anything from any coaches,” said Hylton, who will play with Team Belief this summer. “But hopefully going into the adidas Gauntlet and my 15U summer, some coaches that see me and who I am.”
His grassroots team will be playing in the adidas Gauntlet for the first time this summer, and Hylton says the goal is just to prove that they belong.
“This is our first year being in the Gauntlet, so we need to go out there and just show who we are and that we can compete,” said Hylton, who says he’ll bring leadership and energy to the squad.
“I’m a leader so I get my team involved, and I’m energetic so I like to play defense,” he said. “Whoever I’m guarding I like to shut them down, I take a lot of pride in that.”
The talented point guard feels like he’s a little under-the-radar up to this stage of his career. He’s eager to get out on the 15U circuit and prove that he can be a college point guard.
‘I just want to get my talent out there, I know I’m pretty low-key right now,” said Hylton. “And I just want to become a better point guard, and get bigger, and faster. I’m going to be working on my jumper also, I need to be able to knock down open shots.”
