PG PJ Pipes (Illinois Stars 17U)
Pipes was solid on Friday, but was outstanding on Saturday. The power guard had it rolling scoring! Pull up jump shot from both mid-range and three was straight money. Attacks the hoop with strength, but is also slippery getting through traffic. Showed developing point guard skills even while scoring. The biggest thing with Pipes this weekend was the consistency he played with game in and game out. Mid-major to low-major point guard in 2017.
SG Jose Grubbs (Illinois Stars 17U)
At 6’3” this Joliet Central standout has a lot of intangibles that you love in a player. Physically he has great length and good muscle tone. Grubbs is a tremendous glue guy for the Illinois Stars. He does the little things. Dives after loose balls, gets offensive rebounds, plays tough defense. High activity level with a never ending motor. As a scorer was best in the transition game and getting buckets off put backs. Small college prospect that will be a player the coach he plays for loves having for four years. He was productive doing the intangible things all weekend!
SG John Contant (Illinois Stars 17U)
Contant is a crafty and sneaky athletic shooting guard that has a knack for getting in the lane where he can score. The senior guard can also pass the ball well for an off guard. Defensively he impressed staying in front of his man and beating them to the spot. Small college prospect that will excel at the next level.
SG Liam Lyman (Illinois Stars 17U)
Lyman is coming off a strong junior campaign at Benet where he helped his team get to the 4A state title game. He isn’t the greatest athlete, but is a quality spot up shooter that has a nose for the basketball. Small college prospect.
SG Demarius Jacobs (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
We are still waiting for that dominant performance from Jacobs, but he flashes the potential that makes him so intriguing as a prospect every game. The 6’3” shooting guard is uber bouncy playing above the rim with an explosive jump off the floor. He is great using his speed in transition beating his man down the floor and finishing with acrobatics. Slashed it well and even showed a couple solid passes. Got his shot going more as the weekend went on. Has the upside that mid-major and low-majors schools love. Defensively if he locks in can be very good on that end of the floor as well.
SF Charles Payton (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
The 6’6” Olympia High School small forward made his debut with All-In/Young & Reckless. The bouncy forward fits right in. Although he didn’t show a ton skill wise which is an area he will need to improve his athleticism is at such an elite level that he is effective on that alone. Payton hit the glass high pointing rebounds and had several second chance put backs. The transition game is his best asset offensively getting out in the open floor and finishing with ferocious slams. Defensively Payton moves well laterally and is a shot blocking presence coming out of nowhere to pin it against the glass. High major prospect.
PG Teyvion Kirk (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
Kirk struggled early in the weekend after coming off a strong showing at Swish N Dish. In the later games he started showing college coaches what all the buzz was about. The Joliet West rangy point guard is smooth with the ball and has a nice feel for getting others involved. Three point shot wasn’t falling, but did knock down some mid-range jumpers and played tough defensively. Rebounded very well throughout the event. Low to mid-major point guard.
PF Jameel Alausa (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
High academic and extremely athletic 6’6” power forward from Chicago U-High. Alausa runs the floor tremendously well and excels in the transition game finishing. Struggled a bit against bigger post defenders around the hoop, but did use his quickness to get by them on a few post moves. Ivy League and low-major programs should take a look.
SG Tyler Chisom (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
Chisom is a consistent producer at the wing position. The Proviso East two guard is a tough defensive minded player that has lockdown ability on that end of the floor. Offensively he is best attacking off the bounce and getting out in transition where he gets to the rim finishing through contact. Shot is still a bit suspect. Really struggled at the free throw line.
PG Keondre Schumacher (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
This low-major prospect can flat out shoot the rock. At 6’0” the Normal U-High point guard is best when spotting up as a catch and shoot guy or pulling up off the bounce for three. Moves well without the ball after initiating the offense. Solid feel for the game and showed improvement as a decision maker.
PG Calvin Hill (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
Hill is a 5’10” lead guard from Kenwood that comes off the bench for All-In/Young & Reckless. The point guard quietly has had a nice spring. He does the little things well and has a calming feel to his game. Solid decisions with the ball. Not flashy, but makes the right pass. Pushes it in transition with speed and can hit an occasional runner or pull up jumper. Small college prospect with the chance to elevate.
SG Maclolm Townsel (SYF 17U)
Townsel continues to develop. The Whitney Young wing is a plus perimeter shooter from both mid-range and three. Smooth ball hander that has effortless elevation and a clean stroke. Also likes to get out in transition. Someone is going to get a steal with Townsel.
