Continue ReadingThe decommitments continue to roll along in the state’s 2016 class. The latest came on Saturday when word came out that Neuqua Valley 6’7” small forward Jacob Cushing had decommitted from Cal Poly and reopened his recruitment. Check out the latest with the state’s #15 prospect in the senior class on the decision and more.
Cushing told us why he has decided to decommit.
“As the summer is nearing I realized I wanted to play closer to home.”
The senior has had his release for about a week now and has heard from a trio of schools.
“Eastern Kentucky, IPFW, and SIU-Edwardsville are the three I’ve been in contact with the most.”
At 6’7” the 2016 prospect shows a well-rounded game. Cushing shoots the ball tremendously well from the perimeter. His pull-up jump shot is on point! Cushing drives hard at his man then stops and pops from both mid-range and three. He has smooth elevation off the floor, great mechanics, and a lot of arc on his shot. The skilled wing is more than just a shooter however. He can handle the ball and make plays off the bounce. His passing is outstanding in the half court finding cutters and shooters. You could almost play him as a point forward to a certain extent. His length and toughness makes him a sound rebounder high pointing the ball. He hits the offensive glass and gets second chance points because of it.
Cushing is the 15th ranked prospect in the state’s 2016 class and the 3rd best small forward. He played with Mercury Elite on the circuit.
